The Mk-82 AIR (Air Inflatable Retarder) is a variant of the Mk-82 general-purpose bomb, with the addition of a high-drag ballute assembly that provides additional drag upon release. The ballute helps slow the bomb's descent and reduces its forward momentum, which increases accuracy and reduces collateral damage. The Mk-82 AIR is designed to be carried by a variety of aircraft, including fighter jets and bombers. The pilot may select either a high drag or low drag configuration depending on mission requirements.
