The AGM-84E Standoff Land Attack Missile (SLAM) is an advanced precision-guided cruise missile developed by McDonnell Douglas. The SLAM is an earlier version of the AGM-84H SLAM-ER missile.

Standoff Capability: The missile is designed to engage targets from a significant distance, reducing the risk to the launching aircraft. It has several bearing & range launch modes, but limited waypoint capability.

Guidance System: It utilizes a combination of GPS (Global Positioning System) and inertial guidance to navigate to its target accurately. Terminal guidance is via TV guidance.

CCD Seeker: The missile is equipped with an optical CCD seeker that allows it to identify and engage targets during the terminal phase with enhanced precision in daytime and good weather.

Data Link: The SLAM has a two-way data link that enables mid-course updates and target reacquisition, enhancing its flexibility and responsiveness. A CCD camera allows the pilot to provide manual terminal guidance via datalink.

Land Attack & Anti-Ship Capability: It is primarily designed for land attack missions, meaning it can engage ground-based targets. Using terminal guidance, a pilot may use it for anti-ship attack.
